How does an innocent man spend over 30 years in captivity, accomplish so much while in prison and be turned down time after time by the parole board when other DANGEROUS prisoners are routinely released? (MOST RECENTLY GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY DURING THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL RACE AND THE DANGEROUS KILLER PAROLED FROM MASSACHUSETTS THAT KILLED 2 PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON STATE) Certainly no other Florida prisoner, nor even many "free" men, come close to matching the positive accomplishments and the total productive record of Charles P. Norman, an amazing feat made even more remarkable when realized in the severe and restrictive environment of state prisons. When a man is imprisoned, his family either abandons him or shares his fate, becoming virtual prisoners themselves. The photos in this exhibit show that Charlie's family has continued their loving support of him, from a young man in his twenties at Union Correctional institution, "The Rock," to present day at almost 60 years of age. Many people from varied walks of life have become acquainted with Charlie over the years and realize that he is very different from other prisoners. They have formed a larger support group for Charlie, having recognized and acknowledged that he has qualities that drew them to him, sparked their interest, and inspired them to join in seeking his release. A natural, gifted teacher, skilled organizer and leader, author, playwright, poet, artist, dedicated and genuine Christian, and strongly committed man of integrity and moral fiber, Charlie has used all these talents in many capacities to help literally thousands of prisoners and "free people" alike during the last 30 years. These photos represent only a small fraction of the creative and beneficial force that is Charles Norman, and offer only a brief glimpse into a life well-lived under the ultimate of difficult conditions. After studying this exhibit and comparing Charlie's record to others, the unanswered question that troubles so many is: Why is this man who has so much to offer (and his MANY talents), still unjustly in prison? |
